This is the beginning of the association’s third year at the Scott County Horse Park. Your support during the past several years has enabled the association to build and maintain one of the largest outdoor arenas in Southwest Virginia as well as providing over $40,000.00 for the non-profits of Scott County. High school bands, little league organizations, and Hope House have been able to provide services due to the support that you and your business have provided.
The twelve horse shows, the plow-off, and the draft horse extravaganza made the 2007 season a very busy one for the association. With the addition of the educational facility and an area to sell pre-prepared concessions, the park was able to continue its expansion without entering into debt. It has been the support of the spectators, exhibitors, and patrons that have allowed the park and the association to grow at a measured pace. With additional support for the 2008 season the first of three barns should be built and water will be available by the first show. The camp grounds will be opened by the fall of 2008 with water and power connections.
The 2008 season will open with the annual plow-off in March.
Horse owners from the region will be given the opportunity to gather at the park and have their horses receive their coggins test on March 22nd. Rick Barger will also have a rabies and animal neutering clinic at the park.
In late April the Spring Jamboree will kick off a busy season for the park. There will be two shows a month during the season and a draft horse pull will again be offered for those interested in this exciting sport. A western horse show is in the works for the 2008 season.
Without the support of local businesses, elected officials, and individuals, none of this can or will be possible. Your sponsorship will help the association continue to provide a family friendly venue for the region. This year sponsorships have been enhanced to enable sponsors a greater opportunity to participate in the events you support. The park’s lease has been extended and the association has the option to purchase the park. These new and important developments are due in part to your support and the support of the association members and citizens of this region. This year it is even more important for Scott County’s Tourism development for you to continue to support the future development of park.
This year a booklet will be published and mailed to each member and sponsor. Every association horse show will include a list of sponsors on the flyers that are mailed to exhibitors across the region. With over one hundred and fifty separate exhibitors, your ad dollars will go into four states covering the region. As an added benefit for those that mail their sponsorship in early, they will be listed in the 2008 brochure that will be distributed at the regional farm show. The date is January 10th to be listed in the brochure.
